If you are searching for a Realtor, below are some questions you should ask:
- Do you work 7 days a week? What hours do you work?
- If I have to leave a message on your voice mail or send an email to you, will you respond in a timely manner?
- When selling my home or trying to find a tenant for my rental, will you keep me updated on competing properties as they sell, lower price, rent, etc?
- When trying to help me find a rental or home to purchase, will you give me access to the MLS so I am able to search the MLS in the same manner as a Realtor?
- When selling my home or finding a tenant for my rental, will you be available to immediately give showing instructions to other Realtors?
- When helping me find a home or rental, will you be available on nights and weekends to show properties to me?
These are all important questions to ask, as some Realtors do not work nights and weekends when it is convenient for you to search for a home. That also means if you are trying to sell or rent your home, they are not available to give showing instructions, answer questions or review offers immediately. You can also gauge how reliable a Realtor will be when trying to call or email them. You will see if they immediately answer the phone or if it takes hours for you to receive a response.

If you are ready to buy, your first step must be to work with a mortgage broker to help you get "pre-qualified". The mortgage broker will provide you with a "pre-qualification letter" that will need to be submitted to a seller along with your offer once you find your new home.
